We kissed and i think it ruined what we had, please help?

so this guy named jared and i have became sort of bestfriends over the past year. We were walking to town during our lunch break and i was laughing and he said 'you look really cute when you laugh' and then we kissed. I broke off the kiss midway and said this isnt right. We are better of as friends. We have the same courses so we are together most of the time but things feel awkward. What should i do?
