How will a criminal background affect me getting a job in the IT Field?

I am starting college at the end of August for Computer Information Systems Networking at a State University.I already started getting my Certifications through Microsoft and I believe the school helps you obtain Cisco Certifications.The last conviction is about 2 years old so once I start seriously job hunting the last crime will be 4-5 years old.I have NO FELONIES...but misdemeanor petty thefts related to past drug issues which I have been clean from for 2 years.Advice from IT and Business Professionals please..
